International Nurses Day

Hello Everyone,

Did you know it was International Nurses Day today? Today is chosen because it is also Florence Nightingale’s birthday. At this time we are all, more grateful than ever of the wonderful work that nurses do each and every day.

Florence Nightingale was the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale was put in charge of nursing British and allied soldiers in Turkey during the Crimean War. She spent many hours in the wards, and her night rounds giving personal care to the wounded. As she carried a lamp she became known as the “Lady with the Lamp.” She set up the first scientifically based nursing school—the Nightingale School of Nursing, at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London (opened 1860). She was also instrumental in the developing the role of nurses and midwives in health care.

If you want to find out more about her, take a look at the site here-https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zns9nrd/articles/znsct39

Take care and I look forward to chatting tomorrow.

Mrs Fennelly
