Shadows!

This week we have been exploring and investigating shadows at school, thinking about the properties of light. First, I shared a power point I had made with pictures of shadows on for the children to guess what they were. Next, we went on a shadow hunt in the playground and courtyard. We found lots of shadows thanks to the sun being so strong. We also had a go at making different shadow shapes with our bodies. I think it is only fair to say that we need a bit more practise at hand puppet shadows! Our final challenge was to make a structure that could stand up unsupported, using only tinfoil. We then used torches to act as the sun and explored how to change the direction of the shadows. Finding somewhere dark enough in school on such a sunny day was a challenge in itself! Why not investigate shadows at home and out in your gardens? We are enjoying shadow tag at school so you could have a go at that at home too.

Enjoy!
