Year 1: Week 2 in school learning

Good morning everyone, we have had another fantastic week at school that we wanted to share with everyone.

In English, we have been learning about poetry. We heard the poem ‘Chocolate cake’ by Michael Rosen and the ‘Ning Nang Nong’ by Spike Milligan. We found the poems to both be very silly so decided to create our own silly poems. First we wrote a poem on 5 things you find in a dinosaurs pocket. Then we each picked a character and wrote 8 things you might find in their pocket. The children had to read their poem aloud and we guessed who the character was. We had poems on mermaids, dinosaurs, witches, superheroes and more. It was great fun and we all had a good giggle.

In topic we have been thinking about explorers. We looked at some different explorers like Steve Backshall, Christopher Columbus, the little boy from UP and many more. We thought about what qualities you would need to be a good explorer and then what they would need in their backpack.

In PHSE we have been thinking about what makes a good friend. First, we thought about what we look for in a friend and then we made friendship rainbows to give to one another. It was a lovely, thoughtful lesson.

In PE we played football Rounders. I was the bowler and kicked the ball to the person ‘batting’ they then had to kick it as far as they could for the fielding team to try and return it to me whilst they ran as fast as they could round the cones. After that we tried shooting the ball into the goal. I think I need to work on my goalkeeping skills as you were all very good.
