Rowling Class – Art

Rowling class have really enjoyed learning about David Hockney this term in our art lessons. We have researched his life and work, looked at some of his paintings and looked at how landscapes are formed and painted.

This week, we enjoyed looking at David Hockney’s use of colour and texture. David Hockney uses lots of bright colours in his paintings and uses different patterns and textures to create an effect. We really liked looking closely at the pictures to identify the different patterns.

David Hockney often uses contrasting colours in his work so this was our next step, to look at the colour wheel and remind ourselves of primary and secondary colours.

Today, we chose our favourite painting from the 3 below and then drew some rectangles underneath. In each rectangle we looked in at a different part of the painting and mixed the colours carefully to ,are sure that we had the right colours. Then, we thought about the pattern and how to create this. We worked so quietly and I was so impressed with how focussed everyone was and you can see by their work just how brilliant they were!

Well done Rowling class, have a wonderful half term!
