Matilda class-Romeo and Juliet

I’m happy to say that it has been a fantastic start to the spring term in Matilda class. The children have got right back into the swing of things. We have started our Royal Shakespeare Company showcase topic which, this year, is based around Romeo and Juliet.
We have been learning about the characters and events of the play though drama. The children have had the opportunity to take the roles of the main characters and act out parts of the play. We worked with Paddington class to act out the feud between the Montagues and Capulets. The children used Shakespearian language to greet their family and insult their enemies. We explored the ball scene from the play, with the children disguising themselves in masks and smartening up in ties and dresses. We learnt a Renaissance dance like that of Shakespeare’s time. The children have been using all of this information to create a final piece of work that they will display to you on the showcase morning.

In maths the children have been learning how to subtract using physical objects, then drawing out counters and now have moved onto number-lines to solve trickier problems. In history we have started our topic on Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell, two very important nurses that above and beyond. The children even had a go at being nurses on each other! In science we have been looking at what things are made from and where those materials come from.

A great first week and a half, I’m sure it will be a fantastic term . Have a lovely weekend.
