Murray Class – Invention Unit

What a great first week of the summer term! It’s hard to believe that we’re already in the summer term but we’ve had a great start and we’re ready and raring to go for the next term.

This week we have enjoyed our invention unit in English, based on the book Beegu by Alexis Deacon.

Beegu: Deacon, Alexis: 9780099417446: Books

Throughout the week we have been planning and inventing our own journey story all about Beegu. At the beginning of the week, we wrote poems and a character description about Beegu before planning our journey story and writing over two days.

The children were very inventive with their stories and we finished the week by sharing our story with someone from Gruffalo class, which was so lovely to see! We enjoyed listening to Gruffalo’s retelling of ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ before hearing them share their own innovations such as ‘We’re going on a cat hunt’ and ‘We’re going on a lion hunt’. They were fantastic!

When the children had finished their story, they were able to draw an illustration of Beegu too and we had some lovely pictures!

Well done Murray class, a great first week back!
