Year 5 – Einstein

This week in maths we are thinking about the place value of decimals, we will be building decimal numbers, ordering them and comparing them. Today we refreshed our memories by representing tenths using a straw cut into ten equal pieces. Each piece represented one tenth. We used this to help us write and understand decimal numbers. So one tenth = 0.1, two tenths = 0.2 etc….

We then experimented with different combinations of tenths and whole straws to represent decimal numbers.
