A great start Dyson Class!
Mrs Amos, Miss Clarke and Mrs de Board have been incredibly impressed with Dyson class’ start to Year 5. After only three days back, they have demonstrated their fantastic attitude to learning, respect for each other and adults and wonderful background knowledge as we begin our new topics. In English, we have started our new Talk for Writing unit- The Gas Mask- which is a portal story and focuses on use of the description toolkit. Today, Mrs Amos had a treasure chest of goodies including a gas mask, ration book, pocket watch, Christmas card from France, a newspaper from the 1940s and several other clues about our model text. We all had great ideas about the purpose of each item and who they may have belonged to. In maths, we have been revising our knowledge of larger numbers and in reading we are thinking about how authors demonstrate changes in character’s feelings and personalities across a piece of text.
The homework pieces completed over the summer have been outstanding; the amount of information about James Dyson, displayed in so many innovative ways will make a wonderful display that you can see when we have out ‘meet the teacher’ evening in a couple of weeks time.
So much achieved already in extremely warm conditions!
Looking forward to another jam-packed week with you all starting on Monday.
