Year 4 Mozart – Poetry

This week we started our new Talk for Writing unit which is based on poetry. We have really enjoyed exploring and performing a range of different poems. A particular favourite seemed to be learning about nonsense poems! We had lots of fun writing our own nonsense poems, taking inspiration from an everyday or ordinary task, such as eating pancakes or brushing our teeth. We then changed key words for made up, nonsense words and used these to write our own poem. Today, we listened to a poem called ‘The Door’ and used this as the inspiration behind our own writing. To begin with, we tried to order the poem based on what we thought the correct order might be. Then, we generated lots of ideas as to what could be behind the door, making sure we were being really imaginative and used these to write our own poems. We are really looking forward to continuing our poetry unit next week!
