Year 2 – The Messages of Christmas

In RE this term we have been looking at the religion Christianity.  Our particular focus has been the Christmas story and learning about the characters in the story, the messages and the symbolism.  We have looked at the characters who gave and received messages in the Christmas story and the symbolism of the star.  We have also discussed how Christmas is celebrated in homes and many of the children noticed that they have either a star or an angel on the top of their Christmas tree and the symbolism of this.  We also talked about how Christians like to spread hope and joy at Christmas, and discussed how we could all spread some joy to our family or friends regardless of whether we are Christians or not.  I have been so impressed again this term with the children’s enthusiasm for learning about other people’s region and their respectful and thoughtful class discussions.  Well done year 2.
