Another great week in Mozart class!

We have had another great week in Mozart class, with lots of new, exciting topics being introduced.

In our English lessons, we have started our new fiction unit based on portal stories. The children have been recapping on their learning from last year and thinking about what makes an effective setting description. So far, we have looked at using the senses to bring the setting to life and selecting the time of day or weather to create the desired effect. They loved the hook, where we watched a video of Tadeo Jones exploring a pyramid funfair attraction!

In maths, we have consolidated our knowledge of addition and applied this fluency to solving problems. We have also started learning about subtraction, building on the mental strategies we already know and using number lines to explore counting on and counting back from certain numbers.

Our wider curriculum has also been very exciting! In RE, the children have been learning about Diwali. They created a storyboard in their books detailing the story of Rama and Sita, which they really enjoyed! In Science, we have started learning about the different links in a food chain, and the children were introduced to new vocabulary such as producer and consumer. In computing, the children learnt that the Internet is actually a network of networks that need to be kept secure. They loved deciding whether their server needed to accept or block messages that were arriving!

On a side note, it has been great to see the children practising TTRS so much and improving their statuses. Please do keep this up – a little and often goes a long way!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Robson
