A poem to be spoken silently

This week in English, we have been creating poetry based on a description of a forest. We explored a poem called ‘ A poem to be spoken silently’ and then used this as inspiration for our own poems.

Yesterday, we spent time exploring vocabulary and building a word grid to help us to write our poem. The children were amazing at selecting appropriate vocabulary and strengthening their vocabulary. We explored different adjectives, verbs, adverbs and abstract nouns.

Today, we took our word grids and used these to create our poems. First of all, we created a poem together as a class then the children wrote their own individual poems.  I was blown away by the children’s ideas and how they manipulated sentences to create amazing poems. All of the children worked so hard and I was very impressed.
