Sculptors, Sofers and Gardeners

This week we have been sculptors creating sculptures using marshmallows and sticks to explore shapes we can make, investigate how to make the structure more robust and work in groups to build even bigger sculptures.  We have also been gardeners planting new plants to make the area outside our classroom brighter, like the character does in the new book we are reading The Curious Garden.  Today we learnt more about the Jewish religion and made our own Torah scrolls. This included us writing in Hebrew for the first time, we found it challenging to write these new symbols and to write them from right to left but with concentration and determination we all achieved our goal.  We learnt that a person who writes the Torah is caller a Sofer, the children thought I meant the sofa that we sit on to watch TV at first which made us all giggle!
