Matilda-Brass Attack!
Although it’s only been a 4 day week we have certainly done a lot! The children have been outside again in science looking at the different kinds of plants there are out there and tallying up what they could find in a specific area.
In RE we have been learning about Hanukkah, the story behind it and the use of the Menorah. The children did a fantastic job of creating their own unique Menorahs.
For those who don’t know, before I became a teacher I trained as a classical brass musician. For music this week we introduced the children to the brass family of instruments. I was able to bring in a variety of brass instruments and showcase them to the children. We practiced the breathing required to play these instruments and the lip buzzing needed to produce a good sound. The children all had a go at buzzing into a mouthpiece and I must say, if the opportunity ever arises, there are a lot of very promising brass players in the year group! The children looked at the differences between the instruments and listened to a couple of pieces of music. I often describe the tuba as a big bear so we played the Bare Necessities from the Jungle book (as sung by Baloo the bear) and got our dark side out by playing Imperial March from Star Wars. A great end to the week.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.
