Murray Class Science
This term, in Science we have been answering the enquiry question of ‘What do animals (including humans) need to survive?’
We have really enjoyed learning about how animals and humans grow and change, what we need to survive, how to keep healthy and why exercise is important for us.
This week, we learnt all about hygiene and discovered why it is important to have good hand hygiene for our health. We talked about what things we need to have good hygiene and what we can use to help with this (e.g. toothbrush, hand soap, shampoo, sponge, etc)
We investigated the importance of hand washing and we used glitter bug handwash to help us to recognise that sometimes, we have germs on our hands and it is really important to wash these away. The glitter represented the germs.
4 children used the glitter bug hand sanitiser and as you can see, their hands became very germy!
After creating our germy hands, we then had to wash our hands in different ways to see what happened.
The first person washed their hands with water.
The second person did not wash their hands.
The third person washed their hands with soap very quickly
The fourth person washed their hands with soap using the NHS guidance for handwashing.
The children made a prediction about what they thought would happen to the germs and then after completing the washing, placed their hands on a surface of card to show the results.
As you can see, it is very important to wash your hands thoroughly with soap for 20 seconds,.
This was a great investigation and all of the children learnt the importance of hand hygiene and how to stay healthy!
Well done Murray class
