Year 1: Paddington Class

We have been very busy bees this week.

In English the children have continued to learn about the enormous turnip. The children have corrected sentences by identifying where full stops and capital letters go and have been working on reciting the story to their peers using a range of sentence openers.

In Maths the children have learnt all about teen number (11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19). The children have been using a variety of resources to create these teen numbers to support their understanding of how many tens and units are in a number.

We have begun painting our owls and hedgehogs in art this week. The children have worked hard to follow a step by step guide to draw their animals and have now been mixing powder paints to create the backgrounds of their pictures. Well done guys, they are looking fab!

We have moved away from developing the skill of visualising in our reading lessons and have now began promoting a love of reading. The children have thoroughly enjoyed listening to a variety of stories and explaining what parts of the stories they enjoy or do not enjoy. The children have been putting their acting skills to the test and have been performing many of the stories to their peers! Today we acted out ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ it was a lot of fun!

In History we have been learning all about the things that have happened since we have been alive . We have looked at how our lives have changed and how we have changed. We created human timelines to look at this further which was great fun!
