Year 3 DT – Sandwich Snacks!

Over the last 2 weeks, year 3 have enjoyed learning about sandwiches! This is part of our DT topic called Sandwich snacks. Over the course of the unit, we will discuss sandwiches, give an opinion about breads and fillings and eventually, make our own sandwich!

Last week, we started the unit by collecting data. It’s important to do our research so we created a table and collected the data of the different types of sandwiches that year 3 children like. There were many different varieties! When we had collected the data, we started to create a PowerPoint using the devices to share the results.

On Friday, the fun happened! We were able to taste 5 different types of bread, in preparation for designing our own sandwich. The breads were

  • White bread
  • Wholemeal bread
  • White wrap
  • Pitta bread
  • Soft white roll

Before we started, we discussed which breads we knew we liked. Some children hadn’t tasted wholemeal or a pitta before so it was great that it was going to be a new experience for some!

We created a table and gave our opinion about all of the bread types. Most children loved the white bread but surprisingly, the pitta bread was a big hit and the plate was clear at the end of the lesson!

It was fantastic to see everyone try something and share their opinion. Even though we didn’t all like the wholemeal bread, it was fabulous to see everyone try!

Well done Rowling class, I can’t wait to see our finished sandwiches!
