Year 5 – Science

The Moon

Scientists aren’t sure exactly how the Moon was formed, although the main theory is that around 4.5 billion years ago, a body the size of Mars crashed in to Earth. The debris from this crash is believed to have formed the Moon.

The children really enjoyed exploring the effect of meteors on the surface of the moon using different sized meteors that we made from play-doh and marbles and dropping them onto the surface of the moon (the flour). We explored how the height and angles from which we dropped them effected the craters that were created.
