Robinson Class

Good morning Robinson class.

We have had another busy week of learning.

In English, the children are finishing their unit based on non-fiction report writing. The children worked in pairs to create a mythical creature. The children used ‘the rainbow dragon’ to support writing their own report on their creature. All of the children have thoroughly enjoyed creating informative reports explaining what their creature looks like, where it lives, what it eats and added interesting facts.

In Maths, we have been learning about weight and capacity. The children have learnt that grams are used to weigh items. We ended our learning on weight by baking flapjacks. We had to be very careful to weigh the ingredients correctly to make sure they were tasty. As you can see from our pictures, they were! This week the children have been learning about capacity. The children learnt that the capacity is how much liquid a container can hold. We have had great fun experimenting with different containers and measuring the capacity using cups. We have begun to learn about litres and millilitres by using measuring jugs.

In Geography we have been learning about the world. We now know that their are 7 continents and 5 oceans, countries that are near the equator have hot climates and countries further away from the equator and cold climates. We have looked at Africa and Antarctica and compared the animals, how people live there and the environment.

In forest school, the children have been considering how the birds adapt in the winter. We made bird feeders out of cardboard, lard and bird seed to hang in the trees to help the birds that don’t migrate. We used our scientific skills to create mud paint by ensuring we had the right amount of dirt and water to paint our pictures. Many of the children made fantastic dens, working in teams.

We have been learning about internet safety this week. The children learnt how to use the internet safely in their homes and to always ask a grown up if they are not sure. We spoke about the importance of not putting in a grown ups password on a game in case it uses real money, not adding strangers and what to do if someone is mean to you online.
