Writing a discussion!

Over the past two weeks, Year 6 have been learning about discussion texts and exploring the toolkit ingredients vital for writing an engaging discussion. This unit of work has allowed us to debate a number of controversial in school subjects such as; should football be banned at school? And should primary school children be allowed to walk to and from school independently?

This week, we have been innovating a shared write to discuss the statement: all formal learning should stop when SATs finish. The children have discussed a range of for and against statements, created a boxing up plan and so far; written their introduction, for and against paragraphs. The writing has been fantastic, with a wide range of toolkit features applied in each and every individual discussion text- I am so excited to read the conclusions!
