History in Paddington Class

Today we started our new history unit about the nurses Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell.  We talked about where they are from and what they are famous for.  The children enjoyed acted as the nurses and injured soldiers using bandages and toy medical equipment.  We looked at a map of where they were both from and looked at pictures of them.  I  was  really  impressed that many of the children had read facts on our display in the classroom and could already tell me details about the nurses, these included:

  • Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell helped soldiers.
  • They both went in wars.
  • Mary Seacole was from Jamaica
  • Mary Seacole lived over 150 years ago in 1805
  • Edith Cavell was born in 1865
