Dyson – DT Moving Toys

This term, Year 5 have been busy exploring how toys move and the mechanisms behind those movements. As part of our Design and Technology curriculum, we have taken a closer look at CAMS mechanisms. These mechanisms are a linkage system which has a follower to convert rotary movement to linear movement. To test this mechanism, the children have designed their own moving ‘merry go round’. As part of the design process, the children have selected a theme and colour scheme to attract people to want to ride their ‘merry go round’. Here are some of their designs so far:
