Matilda-Poetry week

Its been fantastic final week in Matilda class to end the term. The children have worked so hard across all of their subjects. In particular the children have been looking at poetry in English. We looked at two kinds of poems: a nature poem based on the poem In My Garden by Moira Andrew and a list poem based on the poem 10 things found in a wizard’s pocket by Ian McMillian. The children read each poem and then imitated them coming up with their own ideas. We went to the forest school area noted down all the things we could see, hear, smell and touch, using these ideas along with some great adjectives to write our own nature poem. The children came up with some fantastic ideas for “impossible items” that could be inside a wizard’s pocket. I took a photo to share some of these ideas with you! We wrote our own poems and then had a great time putting on a grand poetry reading in Matilda class focusing on how we delivered our poems, so they were interesting for our audience.
I was very impressed!
Its been a great term and I can’t believe that we only have one more left till the children move up to year 2, it seems to have gone in a flash!
I hope you all have a great half term holiday, I will see you all a week on Monday.
