Y6: Churchill and Mandela Gurdwara Visit

On Friday, the children in Year 6 were very lucky to be able to visit a Gurdwara, a Sikh place of worship. On arrival, we were taught how people in the Sikh community greet each other, to show respect to God and each other. Sikhs recognise all religions, believing that all religions are different pathways to the same God. We then had a tour of the Gurdwara that included a talk about the key beliefs of Sikh people in the divan hall, where the holy book – the Guru Granth Sahib –  is kept during the day, and we heard part of it being read.  Finally, we had a drink of juice in the langar – the community kitchen of the Gurdwara, where free food is prepared and shared ; we learnt that in Sikhism, sharing what you have with others is very important. The children demonstrated the knowledge they had gained in their lessons in school through their ability to answer questions during the visit and we were really proud of how they conducted themselves very respectfully too. Well done, everyone.
